Cardiff Arena and Hotel Development Update – Closure of Pedestrian Route through County Hall

As we start 2025 the Cardiff Arena and Hotel Development Works are progressing at pace.

Sewer Works

Knights Brown continue with the surface water deep sewer diversion in the northwest corner of the site, this work is expected to be complete mid-March 2025.  Knights Brown are issuing a detailed updated on the works to neighbouring properties.

Site Clearance and Utility Diversions

Provectus have started to undertake site preparation works for the main construction contract and divert the remaining utility services. This includes installing new surface water drainage from the site to East Bute Dock; the diversion of the telecoms cables, electricity, the foul sewer and water. This work is expected to complete in September 2025.

Pedestrian Route

As a result of the Site Preparation and Utility Diversion works there will be no pedestrian access available through the County Hall site from 17th February 2025. Access to the Bay and Red Dragon Centre will be via Silurian Park and Lloyd George Avenue as shown. This route, already established, will continue to be sign posted.

Until 17th of February 2025 there will be pedestrian access through County Hall, however the footpath between the parking bays linking to Hemingway Road forms part of the site and will be closed.

Road Closures

Hemingway Road between the Hemingway roundabout and Lloyd George Avenue and the southern part of Schooner Way will be permanently closed from the 24th of February 2025. Pedestrian access from Lloyd George Avenue to the Hemingway Road roundabout will be available across the front of the Travelodge Hotel and round the rear of the site compound.
