Significant progress had been made on our enabling works programme, with the central area of site now handed over from our control to the Arena main construction contractor. Responsibility for the control of any environmental impacts from the works in this area have also been passed over.
Arena Foundations Preparations
Northern Area (See Diagram: Area 1)
Foundations preparation works within the north of site are in progress, including the completion of a utilities service trench where diverted utilities and services have been installed. The remainder of these works generally comprise returning the area to the required design ground levels in readiness for construction.
Materials that have been excavated and temporarily stockpiled in this area will be assessed, and anything re-usable will be retained onsite for use in other areas. Any remaining surplus will be removed from site as waste.
Pile probing works have been programmed to take place in two phases. Pile probing is a process whereby the ground is investigated beneath the surface to assess its integrity in advance of building foundations works being undertaken. Phase 1 has been completed and, before Phase 2 could commence, utilities and underground services needed to be relocated first. Now that the relocation works have been completed it is possible to undertake the remaining pile probing works. The shallow pile probing works are due to commence on the 11th August, with deep pile probing scheduled for the 4th September.
North-west Area (See Diagram: Area 2)
Pile probing activities extend into this area and preparatory works are underway. The dates for this are the same as for Area 1, with shallow pile probing works planned for the week commencing 11th August and deep pile probing scheduled for the 4th September.
Service Diversion Activities
Western Area (See Diagram: Area 3)
Utilities and service trench works in this area are now complete. The area continues to be worked on to adjust the ground level to the agreed design level, using suitable materials available on site.
South-western Area (See Diagram: Area 4)
In this area, we have been undertaking excavation and temporary works to facilitate the installation of a new foul sewer line. Once the installation of the temporary works is complete, the new foul sewer will be constructed.
The new sewer line will connect with the existing sewer; the connection point is within the footpath of Lloyd George Avenue. This work will require a secure working area and so will be enclosed by fencing for the duration. This work is anticipated to commence on the 26th August and will take approximately four weeks to complete.
Outfall works (See Diagram: Areas 5 & 6)
This package of works has involved the installation of new surface water drainage pipework in the north and south of the site running west to east, connecting into Bute East dock.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, the outfall works have taken longer than anticipated to complete which resulted in a longer than planned impact to the dockside footpath. With works to the north outfall connection now complete, the route along the west side of the dock has now re-opened (11th August). Some reinstatement works remain to be completed, commencing 11th August, however, this will not require the pathway to close.
A temporary reduction in the width of the pedestrian footpath for the north and the south will be in place until this work is completed, using appropriate fencing to facilitate these works and to safely segregate these activities from the public. This will be completed by mid-September.
Upcoming / Ad hoc Works
Offsite Disposal
Any surplus or unsuitable for re-use materials on site will need to be removed as waste using tipper lorries. Wherever possible, we aim to stockpile materials to warrant a full day of vehicle movements, minimising the number of vehicle movements on and off site. All lorries moving on and off site for this activity will pass over the wheel wash to minimise the transmittal of mud/debris onto the surrounding road network. As necessary, additional road cleaning will be undertaken.
Deliveries
Deliveries of plant, equipment and materials will continue as the project progresses, and we endeavour to remove all delivery vehicles from the public highway at the earliest possible opportunity to keep disruption to a minimum.
We appreciate that at times these necessary activities may cause some disruption to daily activities or set routines, and we appreciate your understanding whilst they are completed. Regardless, if you have any concerns or comments, please do not hesitate to contact Provectus on 01902 936165 or via email at talktous@provectusgroup.com
