Cardiff Arena Enabling Works – April Update

Dear All,

Following successful completion of the Knights Brown Sewer Diversion Works and the permanent stopping-up of Hemingway Road and Schooner Way, the Provectus enabling works have commenced and are progressing well.

We would like to take this opportunity to advise of upcoming activities and also to provide an update on the works undertaken to date. This is explained on the site layout plan on the following page.

As part of our commitment to minimise the impact of our works on the surrounding environments we have recently mobilised and are using additional dust suppression equipment and have installed acoustic fencing along the western site boundary.

Arena Foundations Preparations

Pile Mat Placement (Area 1)
The placement of the pile mat across the main portion of site is in progress with circa 85% of the mat now placed. This pile matt is being installed in advance of the proposed pile probing works scheduled for the end of April onwards. It is anticipated that these works, utilising rotary techniques, will continue throughout June.

Excavation Works (Area 2)
With the release of the northern section of the site by Knights Brown, following their diversion of the deep stormwater sewer at the end of March; this area is now available for us to progress the excavation to the required design levels.

Water Treatment Plant (Area 3)
The bespoke water treatment plant has been established immediately to the north of County Hall. This plant manages, treats and discharges any surface water as the construction works progress.

Service Diversions (Areas 4, 5 and 8)
Installation of new surface water infrastructure continues along the northern side of the former Hemingway Road, heading in a south-westerly direction towards Lloyd George Avenue. The excavation works for utility diversions, aligned along the western boundary of the site (former Schooner Way) are making progress. This work will release the former Schooner Way to be incorporated into the building works. Works are due to commence towards the end of April with respect to the installation of a headwall feature for the southern surface water discharge into the Bute East Dock.

Crushing (Area 6)
Crushing of site concrete continues, producing a material suitable for re-use during the project therefore increasing sustainability, reducing waste disposal and in turn reducing vehicular movements from the site. This is being conducted in the south-east of the site adjacent to our site offices and welfare compound.

Material Storage (Area 7)
Materials for use within the service diversion activities are being stored within the plaza area to the west of the existing Travelodge.

Upcoming / Adhoc Works

Offsite Disposal

When surplus or unsuitable materials are identified during the works, they are removed from site using lorries. Wherever possible Provectus aim to stockpile sufficient material available to warrant a full day of vehicle movements, as opposed to ad hoc vehicle movements. All lorries utilised for this activity will pass over the recently installed wheel wash to minimise the transmittal of mud/debris onto the surroundings road network. As necessary additional road cleaning will be undertaken.

Deliveries

Deliveries of plant and equipment will continue as the project progresses and we endeavour to remove all delivery vehicles from the Public Highway or the Council Access Road at the earliest possible opportunity to keep disruption to a minimum. We appreciate that at times these necessary activities may cause some disruption to daily activities or set routines, and we appreciate your understanding whilst they are completed. Regardless of which, if you have any concerns or comments please do not hesitate to contact Provectus on 01902 936165 or via email at talktous@provectusgroup.com
